“If you give an audience a chance they will do half your acting for you”- Katharine Hepburn
Big blokes. Big moves. Big falls. The wrestlers from the Australian Wrestling Federation throw themselves into every show and the crowd loves it. Is it real? “You shouldn’t even be asking that question,” says one fan.
John ‘Hardcore’ Howith says: “I honestly think fans who come to the wrestling want to see a show. They want to see characters. They want to see good guy versus bad guy. They’re not there to wonder whether it’s real or not real.”
“It’s real to me,” says Greg ‘TNT’ Bounds, the wrestler, trainer and choreographer behind the whole operation. Despite the choreography, nasty injuries are common place.
Gluttons for Punishment explores the unspoken pact between actors and their audience, as they suspend disbelief in order to revel in the primal pleasure of a violent pantomime for adults.
